Conor Gallagher may remain at Chelsea despite interest from Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, as he weighs his options carefully to ensure any potential move aligns with his career aspirations.

The possibility of leaving his boyhood club on a free transfer next summer remains if suitable conditions for a transfer are not met.

Chelsea anticipates bids from Villa and Spurs for the 24-year-old midfielder but has yet to extend Gallagher’s contract, raising concerns about a potential financial loss.

The club, adhering to a policy of selling players with expiring contracts, is open to offers of at least £50 million for the England international.

While Villa has initiated discussions with Chelsea, and Spurs are expected to follow suit, Gallagher is not in a rush to depart. Sources indicate he is prepared to bide his time and will not be pressured into a move that does not align with his career goals.

As a lifelong Chelsea supporter and a favourite among the Stamford Bridge faithful, Gallagher is determined to maintain control over his future.

Chelsea’s stance is understandable, as they aim to avoid a financial hit and comply with Premier League profitability and sustainability regulations.

Any transfer fee for Gallagher, a product of the club’s academy, would be pure profit.

However, there is a belief within the club that Gallagher may not fit into the possession-based style preferred by new head coach Enzo Maresca, given the abundance of midfield talent at Chelsea, including Moisés Caicedo, Enzo Fernández, Roméo Lavia, Lesley Ugochukwu, Andrey Santos, and Carney Chukwuemeka.

Despite these circumstances, there has been no fallout between Chelsea and Gallagher, who has captained the team on several occasions this season.

Villa’s manager, Unai Emery, is keen on Gallagher’s energetic style and is eager to secure his services. However, Villa’s ability to afford the £50 million asking price may hinge on making at least one significant sale, with their financial position potentially boosted by Champions League qualification. An agreement could be facilitated if Chelsea pursues their interest in Villa striker Jhon Durán.
