Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand has reacted to Arsenal’s interest in Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze

According to Ferdinand, the North London club don’t need to sign Eze.

Ferdinand, in a statement on his podcast on Monday, claimed manager Mikel Arteta should only sign Eze if he will play Declan Rice at the base of midfield.

The Gunners are said to be considering a move for Eze, whose £68million release clause expired last week.

There are reports that Arsenal are trying to offload some players this summer before they make an official move for Eze.

But Ferdinand said: “Why do Arsenal need Eze? Where is he going to play? You’ve got Martin Zubimendi as a holding midfielder, Declan Rice on the left-hand side of the No.8, Martin Odegaard on the right-hand side.

“Then you’ve got a winger – out of Noni Madueke or Gabriel Martinelli… He’d play where Declan Rice plays.”

The Eagles wouldn’t let their key player leave unless they get an offer that meet their valuation for the England international.
