Manchester City have reportedly won the race to sign highly rated Leicester City teenager Jeremy Monga after agreeing a deal worth up to £12.5 million, ending Arsenal’s long-standing interest in the winger.

Arsenal had been leading the pursuit of the 16-year-old after holding club-to-club talks with Leicester and reaching an agreement in principle. However, the Gunners ultimately pulled back from the deal after deciding the asking price exceeded their valuation.

That opened the door for Manchester City, who moved quickly to take advantage of the situation and accelerate negotiations with the Foxes. According to reports, Pep Guardiola’s side have now reached a full agreement with Leicester, paving the way for one of English football’s brightest young talents to join the Premier League champions.

The package is understood to include an initial payment of £10 million, with a further £2.5 million in performance-related add-ons, while Leicester have also secured a sell-on clause as part of the transfer.

Should the add-ons be triggered, Monga will become the most expensive 16-year-old in Premier League history. The total fee would eclipse the £12 million Arsenal paid to sign Theo Walcott from Southampton in 2006, while also surpassing the £8.5 million Manchester United spent to recruit Hannibal Mejbri from Monaco.

Monga is regarded as one of the country’s most exciting young prospects, with his pace, technical ability and attacking flair attracting interest from several elite clubs.

For Arsenal, the development represents a significant setback after months of interest, while Manchester City have once again demonstrated their willingness to invest heavily in the game’s top emerging talents as they continue building for the future.
