Chelsea defended and Brazil stat Thiago Silva has agreed to extend his contract at the club, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

Silva’s current contract at Chelsea expires in the coming summer and his former club Fluminense were already monitoring him to see if he would extend his contract with the EPL side.

While a report via The Athletic had earlier revealed that Chelsea were set to offer a contract extension to the Brazil captain. It looks like he has agreed to remain at Stamford Bridge.

Should Silva finally pen a new deal with Chelsea, this means he would still be playing at the age of 39 next year.

Despite his age, Silva is Chelsea’s key player at the back and his presence is continually felt in every game he has played for the Blues.

This includes his performance against Liverpool at Anfield last week, which proves how good he still is.

Aside from Silva, all of Chelsea’s other defenders are youngsters except Kalidou Koulibaly who has failed to impress.
