Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella who is on international duty with Spain at the Euro 24 has opened up on his new role at Chelsea.

Recall that Cucurella struggled to impress at Stamford Bridge following his transfer from Brighton in the summer of 2022.

His performance earned him boos at times from Chelsea supporters during his first season at the club.

However, following the arrival of former manager Mauricio Pochettino and some new changes to the Blues formation, the Spaniard who ended the season with a brilliant form has now established himself as a fan favourite.

His form for Chelsea didn’t go to waste as it earned him a place in Spain’s squad for Euro 2024.

The tactical switch under Pochettino saw Cucurella invert into midfield when the Blues were in possession.

Cucurella’s skill blended with the new tactic, bringing out the best in him.

Speaking about the new tactics, Cucurella told Chelsea’s website that the change in his role had been nice.

“I try to do whatever I can to help the side and if I play in more positions and it helps the team, I’m happy because I have more possibilities to play,” he said.

Meanwhile, Cucurella is expected to maintain his role under the Blues newly appointed manager Enzo Maresca known for inverting the full back on one side.
