Chelsea faces a setback in their pursuit of Julian Alvarez as the club president shares his views.

Alvarez emerges as one of the latest names linked with a potential summer move to Chelsea.

The club is reportedly prioritizing the signing of a new forward this season to bolster the squad under the helm of Enzo Maresca.

Nicolas Jackson, the current forward, concluded a mixed debut season at Stamford Bridge with 14 Premier League goals. Any new signing would compete with him for a spot in the starting lineup.

While Victor Osimhen has long been of interest to Chelsea, his hefty price tag of £113m makes a potential move unlikely.

Benjamin Sesko is also on Chelsea’s radar, although Arsenal seems to have an early advantage in securing his services.

RB Leipzig’s Sesko has a release clause valued at around £56m, which Chelsea may consider triggering. However, Brighton’s Evan Ferguson, despite being admired by the Blues, is not expected to be pursued this summer.

Alvarez, who has struggled for consistent playing time under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, has been highlighted as a potential target.

However, with Erling Haaland firmly established as City’s top choice, breaking into the first team might prove challenging for Alvarez.

Although Atletico Madrid has also shown interest, club president Enrique Cerezo suggests Alvarez will likely stay put at Manchester City.

Chelsea recently secured their first signing under Maresca’s management, with defender Tosin Adarabioyo joining on a four-year contract from Fulham as a free transfer.
