Former manager Wenger shares how Arsenal failed to sign Mbappe

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger in a recent statement revealed that the Gunners were once in the race to sign former PSG star Kylian Mbappe.

Wenger revealed French club AS Monaco convinced the France international to snub the Gunners in 2016.

As of then, Mbappe was 17 and on the fringes of the first team at Monaco.

In 2017, a childhood picture of Mbappe wearing a yellow Arsenal shirt from 2004 emerged on social media.

However, later that same year, the France star completed a loan transfer to Paris Saint-Germain with an obligation to buy worth €180million.

Mbappe has now exited PSG, joining Spanish giants Real Madrid as a free agent this summer.

Wenger while speaking with FT1 said at the beginning of a football career, football players don’t have too much pressure at the start and they managed to persuade Mbappe to extend it by promising him that he would play more easily at Monaco than at Arsenal, Liverpool or Real Madrid.

According to Wenger, Mbappe’s parents advised him well and that he made the right decision by not leaving Monaco then.

Meanwhile, Mbappe is expected to fight for a spot in the Los Blancos squad which is already stockpiled with talented players.
