Former Liverpool defender Dietmar Hamann in a recent statement, has claimed Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo Is holding Man Utd back.

Hamann stressed that Ronaldo’s presence at Old Trafford is unnerving his teammates.

Ronaldo re-signed for Man Utd last summer after 12 years away from the club.

The 37-year-old striker would score twice on his debut against Newcastle and then in his next two matches against Young Boys and West Ham.

But as the team began to struggle and pressure mounted on former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, there was a growing sense that Ronaldo was holding the team back.

And Hamann believes that is the case.

“There’s question marks over Ronaldo and whether he hinders the team and whether people are actually scared of him,” Hamann told Metro.

Hamann also criticized Ralf Rangnick’s side and suggested the German has not done enough since succeeding Solskjaer in December.

He added: “I don’t think there’s an identity to this United team which makes it difficult for a player to come into.

“Someone needs to make sure these players pull in the same direction which isn’t the case right now.”
