Arsenal Urged to Make Bold Move for Alexander Isak to End Title Drought

A former Arsenal defender has called on the club to make a major statement in the transfer market by signing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, insisting it’s time they “break the bank” if they are truly serious about winning the Premier League.

Arsenal have made significant progress under Mikel Arteta but have now finished second in three consecutive seasons. In 2022–23, they ended the campaign with 84 points, five behind champions Manchester City.

The following season saw further improvement, with the Gunners closing the gap to just two points, amassing 89. However, their 2024–25 campaign was a step back — finishing with 74 points — allowing Liverpool to claim the title with 84 points as City faltered.

The recurring narrative over these seasons has been Arsenal’s need for a clinical striker to tip the balance in tight matches. Despite their strong performances, only once in that period has a player reached the 20-goal mark in all competitions — and that was winger Bukayo Saka, not a central forward.

The ex-defender believes that Alexander Isak could be the answer. The Swedish international has excelled at Newcastle and shown he can thrive in the Premier League. His blend of pace, technical ability, and goal-scoring instinct could give Arsenal the edge they’ve lacked in the final third.

“If they truly want to win the league, they need to act like it,” the former player insisted. “They’ve been close, but close isn’t good enough. Go and get a striker who can make the difference.”

As Arsenal prepare for another title push, the message is clear: ambition in the transfer market could finally bring the long-awaited silverware back to the Emirates.
