Former Man Utd star Roy Keane has insisted that Cristiano Ronaldo’s injury ahead of the Red Devils game against Man City didn’t add up.

Ronaldo was missing in action on Sunday when Man Utd faced Man City as coach Ralf Rangnick revealed the Portugal international didn’t play because he was battling a hip flexors injury.

Keane suggested that the former Real Madrid and Juventus striker may have been left out of the squad for different reasons and not because of injury, as the German coach claims.

“I think the surprise there is Ronaldo, I’m just never sure when they come out and say hip flexor,” Keane told Sky Sports.

Keane was asked if he thought there is more to the forward’s being dropped, he said, “There seems to be.”

He added, “I just don’t like it when the manager talks about hip flexors.

“I don’t get it. We talk about Ronaldo being almost some sort of machine, he’s very rarely injured.

“But every now and again he [Rangnick] comes out with that… hip flexor, it doesn’t add up to me.”
