A latest report via COPE has revealed why Man Utd were unable to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Italian club, Juventus in the recent summer transfer window.

The reports revealed that Ronaldo was keen on joining the Premier League champions until Man Utd decided to join the race to bring back their former star to Old Trafford.

Guillem Ballague, the Spanish publication European football journalist, claimed that Ronaldo was ready to head to Etihad Stadium.

The only snag in the deal was Man City’s inability to sell an attacker to make room for the 36-year-old’s addition.

Man City made moves to offload one of Bernardo Silva, Gabriel Jesus or Riyad Mahrez, but it didn’t work out.

Ronaldo would go-ahead to join Man Utd instead.

The Portuguese is expected to make a second debut for the EPL side this weekend as they play Newcastle United.

Man Utd would be hoping he would help them challenge Man City for the EPL title this season and in the Uefa Champions League.
