Former Chelsea star, Craig Burley claimed the Blues would be better off signing Brighton’s Moises Caicedo over the Blues.

According to Burley, signing Onana woul strengthen Mikel Arteta’s squad for the challenges ahead of them next season.

Any moment from now, the Blues are set to £105 signing Declan Rice in a matter of hours but Granit Xhaka has left for the German Bundesliga, while Thomas Partey may be heading to Serie A.

Speaking on ESPN, Burley said that allowing Xhaka and Partey leave this summer was good business by the fornners.

Caicedo is being targeted by Burley’s former club Chelsea this season as a replacement for N’Golo Kante who has left for Saudi Arabia.

“But if they could sell them [Xhaka and Partey] for a bit more money, then you would be asking for another player and it would be Caicedo from Brighton.

“He is 21. He can defend, get forward, and is very good on the ball. He still has more to come out of him and he has the energy to cover the pitch.

“I think that would be a better balance between him and Declan Rice, with Martin Odegaard somewhere floating around,” Burley said.
