UCL: Why Kovacic was withdrawn midway in the 2nd half vs RB Salzburg
Chelsea managed Graham Potter in a post-match statement has opened up on why midfielder and Croatia International Matteo Kovacic was withdrawn midway into the second half against RB Salzburg.
Kovacic impressed for the Blues during the first half of the match at RB Arena where he scored the opening goal before Kai Havertz secured the win in the second half.
‘Mateo felt his calf a little bit,’ Potter revealed.
‘It was a heavy pitch and we didn’t want to risk anything. He has a bit of tightness and hopefully it is not too bad.
‘It is the same for Mason [Mount] and Ruben [Loftus-Cheek] who both started on the bench, that’s just how it is at this point of the season.’
It is yet to be known if Kovacic will be available when Chelsea take on Brighton this weekend in the premier league.
