Former Chelsea defender and Germany international Antonio Rudiger impressed for Spanish side Real Madrid on Wednesday night as they eliminated Premier League toppers, Manchester City, from the tournament.

Rudiger was the player who delivered the final goal to give the Los Blancos the needed win in their penalty shoot-out against the Champions League holders.

Following Real Madrid and Rudiger’s win, several Chelsea supporters took to X to applaud their former centre-back.

Recall that Rudiger exited Stamford Bridge on a free transfer back in 2022 as he moved to the La Liga where joined Real Madrid.

Following his departure, the Blues have signed Kalidou Koulibaly, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi to bolster their central defence.

While Koulibaly is no longer at Stamford Bridge, Fofana has struggled to stay fit.

Badiashile has been battling with his injury problems as well, which means  Chelsea have been unable to find that perfect defender to replace the impact Rudiger used to make.

Meanwhile, former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was also in action on Wednesday night as his Bundesliga club Bayern Munich defeated Arsenal in the Premier League.

Chelsea are likely to missed the European tournament next season as they are currently seated outside the top four area.
