Former Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel has opened up on his interest to manage England should current coach Gareth Southgate step aside after the Three Lions’ 2022 FIFA World Cup exit.

A report via The Sun revealed Tuchel, who is currently out of a job after he was sacked by Chelsea in September, would be interested in taking the England job if Southgate stands down.

Recall that England were kicked out of the World Cup tournament over the weekend by France in the quarter-final.

Southgate on the other hand, stirred speculation over his future by insisting after his side’s elimination from the World Cup that he is not sure if he wants to continue as England’s manager.

However, the report added that the Football Association (FA) would favour the appointment of a British coach as Southgate’s successor, which puts the likes of Graham Potter, Eddie Howe, and Brendan Rodgers in the frame.

When asked by The Hindu Times if he had considered managing a national team, Tuchel said last month: “Yeah, why not? I would, I would. I didn’t give too much thought to it until now.

“But I would consider if it’s the right team and if it has the potential to win trophies like the World Cup and the Euros.”
