Reason Tuchel snubbed Man Utd to become England coach
Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has admitted he turned down offer from Manchester United to become England’s new coach.
Recall that Tuchel was one of the names linked with moves to Man Utd while the club were on a look out for a replacement for, manager Erik ten Hag, who continues to deal with uncertainty around his job.
The former Chelsea and PSG manager was said to have held talks with Man United co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, in the summer.
However, the Germany international opted to take over the Three Lions job as he emerged as the the third non-Englishman to do so.
Tuchel will take full reigns of the English national team from 2025.
When asked why he accepted the role instead of holding out for Man United job, Tuchel explained that the idea and the way John McDermott and Mark Bullingham presented it was very fast and confidential.
“It was very straightforward, it was a decision for this job and not against anything else,” he added.
This means Tuchel is now off Man Utd’s list as they will now have to focus on other managers if they must sack Ten Hag.
