Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia has hinted at a return to full fitness as the club prepares for a busy summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old, who joined Chelsea from Southampton last summer for £62 million, managed only 32 minutes of play under Mauricio Pochettino last season due to a series of injuries.

Initially, Lavia faced fitness issues that prevented him from training with the first team, followed by an ankle injury that delayed his debut until late December. He appeared briefly in a match against Crystal Palace but was sidelined for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.

With the arrival of new manager Enzo Maresca, Lavia is poised for a fresh start at Stamford Bridge. Lavia is familiar with Maresca from their time together at Manchester City’s academy, where Maresca coached the development squad to a Premier League 2 title in 2020. Lavia, alongside current Chelsea teammate Cole Palmer, played a crucial role in that success.

Reflecting on Maresca’s impact on his career, Lavia previously mentioned, “I enjoy recovering the ball and passing through the lines. Enzo’s helped me a lot with that, always being on the half-turn so I can see the game going forward.”

Lavia has been showing significant progress in his recovery, sharing updates on social media. In a recent Instagram post, he shared a photo of himself preparing to train, signaling his readiness to return to the field.

As Chelsea begins preseason training with 27 players at Cobham, Lavia’s return to fitness will be a welcome boost for the squad, especially in the absence of several players participating in the European Championships in Germany.
