Chelsea Sets Asking Price for Trevoh Chalobah Ahead of Transfer Window

Chelsea has reportedly set an asking price for defender Trevoh Chalobah as the transfer window approaches.

Last summer, Chalobah found himself sidelined with the arrival of Axel Disasi and the return of Levi Colwill. Although Bayern Munich and Nottingham Forest showed interest, he stayed at Chelsea but was injured until February.

Chalobah did not make any competitive appearances under manager Mauricio Pochettino initially, leading many to believe his Chelsea career was ending. However, due to widespread injuries in the squad, Chalobah became a key player for the final three months of the season. He made 13 starts and four substitute appearances from February 17, losing only once, against Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals.

Despite his recent importance, Chelsea needs to improve their financial position to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability regulations by June 30. To achieve this, co-owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital are open to selling at least one homegrown player and are willing to consider bids for Chalobah.

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea is prepared to sell him for around £25 million in the next transfer window. Chalobah, however, reportedly prefers to stay and fight for his place at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea has several central defenders, including Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi, Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, and Chalobah, but they have rarely all been fit at the same time. Chalobah has proven his versatility by playing both centre-back and right-back under Pochettino.

With ongoing fitness issues for Reece James and Malo Gusto, Chalobah’s ability to cover multiple positions is crucial. Additionally, Chelsea should be cautious about selling too many homegrown players. Prioritizing the retention of Chalobah, Colwill, and Conor Gallagher, while considering the sales of Ian Maatsen and Armando Broja, would be a more strategic move for the club.
