Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has suggested that the Blues’ woes may be because they have too many young players in the squad.

So far, Chelsea are likely to end this season trophyless having lost the chance to lift the Carabao Cup to Liverpool.

As of now, they are seated outside the top ten on the league table which means no European football for the Blues next season.

When asked whether Chelsea’s problems were because they have too many young players, Pochettino said via football.london:

“Maybe, yes [that could be the issue]. People that want to believe in this, okay. It’s the opinion. Look, I was explaining from the beginning of the season what was going on here, trying to be transparent. I’m not going to try and convince people and justify the result.”

Despite this, Pochettino rated the Blues youngsters highly as he said:

“Yesterday, there were nine young kids [training] from the academy. We know really well the academy players. Yes, maybe they will have the opportunity to be involved, for sure. We have an amazing academy we need to use in this type of circumstance. It’s to build the future, the confidence, to arrive and be part of the first-team.”
