Manchester United have been handed a boost ahead of their weekend game against Aston Villa as their captain Bruno Fernandes’s red card has been overturned.

The Portugal international avoided a ban after the Red Devils successfully appealed against the red card he received during their Sunday’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.

Recall that Fernandes was shown a red card for a foul on Tottenham’s midfielder James Maddison and would have missed three matches amid Man Utd’s struggles.

However, a recent update revealed Man Utd have successfully proven that the decision to send him off was wrong.

The Red Devils captain will make the squad that will play in their Premier League fixtures against Aston Villa, Brentford and West Ham.

Fernandes in a statement with BBC Match of the Day after the game admitted that while it was a foul, it didn’t warrant him getting a red card.

Meanwhile, Man United will hope to bounce back with a win in their next match against Porto in the Europa League on Thursday.
