AS Roma coach and Portugal international, Jose Mourinho in a recent statement has revealed why Belgium star, Romelu Lukaku didn’t flourish at Chelsea and Man Utd like he is doing at Inter Milan.

Recall that Mourinho briefly coached Lukaku during his formative years at Chelsea before he also signed him for Man Utd in 2017.

However, the 28-year-old who had also played for Everton and West Brom was able to amass a total of 113 goals in 252 Premier League appearances for all the club he played for.

He was later sold by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who replace Mourinho at Old Trafford as the latter considered him surplus to requirements.

The Belgian striker has however since rebuilt his reputation at San Siro where he was able to help Inter Milan win their first Serie A title in over a decade.

Mourinho in a statement stressed that Lukaku didn’t flourish at Chelsea and Man Utd because he’s still developing.

The Portuguese noted that it’s time for Lukaku to affirm his status as one the best strikers in Europe as the two years he has spent at Inter Milan have given him the stature and the self-confidence that he didn’t have before.

“At Chelsea, he was still a kid. At Manchester United, he was still developing. At Inter he became the top man. He became loved – big love from the supporters, love from teammates, great relations with the coach” Mourinho told the Times.
