Chelsea were unexpectedly without Mason Mount during their match vs Newcastle United on Saturday.

After the victory vs the Magpies, Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel has now opened up on why Mount was left out of the squad for the recent Premier League fixture.

Tuchel revealed that an illness kept the England international out of the squad.

“He should have started, but he got ill overnight, and so we sent him home to London so that we can take care of him better and that he can recover better,” Tuchel stated to Chelsea’s 5th Stand app.

Mount fired a hat-trick in his last performance for the Blues that saw them win a 7-0 victory against Norwich City last weekend.

Even with his absence from Chelsea, were still able to pick all three points vs Newcastle United.

Following their recent win, Chelsea remain seated at the top of the Premier League thanks to a brace from Reece James and Jorginho converting a penalty during their game vs the Magpies.

They are now three points ahead of Liverpool, who are at the second spot on the log table.
