Why Chelsea former manager, others want England job

England manager, Gareth Southgate, has claimed former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino and former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel are interested in his job because he has “made the impossible look possible.”

Recall that a few days ago Pochettino said he was “open” to the idea of managing the England national team if the role became available.

On the other hand, Tuchel had also shown his interest in the job privately following his departure from Chelsea.

While Southgate’s current contract doesn’t lapse until 2024 there are, however, speculations he could end his six-year tenure after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, especially if England underperform.

Southgate has since guided England to the 2018 World Cup semi-finals and last summer’s delayed Euro 2020 final, losing to Italy in a penalty shoot-out.

The 52-year-old has made huge progress in what has been dubbed “the impossible job.”

“Maybe we’ve made the impossible just look possible,” Southgate said.

“Yeah, look, maybe we’ve made it look possible and it’s exciting for other people and I can understand that.”
