Tuchel reacts as Chelsea lift FIFA club world cup
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has applauded his side after their impressive outing in the finals of the FIFA club world cup in Abu Dhabi.
The Blues were able to win the tournament in a 2-1 scoreline thanks to effort from Romelu Lukaku and an extra-time goal from Kai Havertz, who converted a penalty in the 117th minute.
Tuchel, who only joined the rest of the team in Abu Dhabi on Friday due to coronavirus, stressed that Chelsea had some “luck”, but deserved their success for their ‘relentlessness’ in Saturday’s encounter.
Speaking to Channel 4, Tuchel said: “In the end if you score late you need luck to do it but we were relentless and we did not stop trying.
“We did not give in. We had the lead then lost it but never stopped. It was deserved but also lucky when you score late.
“The penalty does not look nervous [from Kai Havertz] but for sure he was. You cannot not be nervous in this situation. We trusted the statistics and I’m happy for him.”
With the recent victory in the club world cup, Chelsea have now lifted every major trophy in their history.
