Potter reacts as Chelsea were not given penalty vs West Ham

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has reacted to the decision of the VAR not to give his side a penalty during their 1-1 draw vs West Ham on Saturday.

The game saw the Blues take the lead thanks to a goal from Joao Felix at the London Stadium in the first half, however, West Ham got an equalizer through former Blues player Emerson Palmieri in the second half.

During the match, Conor Gallagher’s effort from just outside the box struck the arm of Tomas Soucek as he fell to the ground when trying to block the shot.

Despite Chelsea players’ effort to get a spot kick, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) team of David Coote and Nick Greenhalgh, after being consulted didn’t permit it.

Speaking during the post-match conference, Potter said:

“It looked quite a handball to me, I did not know Tomas could get down and save like that. It was a good save from him. It is not for me to say about VAR.

“You need your goalkeeper sometimes to get you points. I only saw it briefly and it looks like one of those where if it was given, it wouldn’t be overturned, but it has not been given.

“Sometimes they go for you, sometimes they don’t and you just have to accept that. You can’t wait for luck to turn. We have to keep working.”
