How Chelsea had wanted to bring back Lampard after 2-0 defeat to Tottenham six weeks ago

A report via the UK Times has revealed Chelsea may have had plans to bring back Frank Lampard to the club long before they sacked Graham Potter.

According to the report, Chelsea first considered bringing Lampard back to Stamford Bridge after a 2-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur in February.

While Lampard is now the Blues interim manager for the rest of the season after he replace Potter, who was sacked last Sunday, the former football star was, however, already on Chelsea’s list six weeks ago.

The delay may have been linked to the fact that they were desperate for Potter to succeed, but the Blues’ performance against Tottenham made the club board start considering alternatives.

The Blues thought of bringing in a caretaker manager after the defeat to the Hotspurs as it was an option the club had used in the past with Avram Grant, Guus Hiddink and Roberto Di Matteo.
