Former Chelsea star opens up on plan to stay at Stamford Bridge before switch to rival club
Former Chelsea winger Willian has opened up on how he wanted wanted to stay at Chelsea before joining Arsenal last summer.
Willian was an important player at Chelsea as he spent seven seasons at Stamford Bridge before departing at the end of last season after failing to agree terms with the London club on a new contract.
The Brazil international was offered a two-year deal to stay in west London, but Willian wanted a three-year extension to his contract, a deal Chelsea were not able to offer.
Willian while speaking with UOL Esporte has now revealed how much he wanted to stay at Chelsea.
He stated that itwas difficult to make that decision because the rivalry between the two clubs is very big.
However, it was was well thought out as he spoke to his wife and even the agent many times.
Willian who grew a great bond with Chelsea fans stated that he didn’t leave the club with a fight, he left the doors open, everyone knew the conditions, he really wanted to stay but
both parties ended up not finding an agreement.
The Brazil international stated that he ended up asking for three years, Chelsea wanted to give two, and everyone knows this story, that’s why he ended up leaving.
Willian has been putting in some impressive performance ever since he joined Arsenal and he will be eager to help them win silverware.
