Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack has opened up on why Timo Werner has failed to live up to the hype that brought him to Stamford Bridge.

Timo Werner was one of the best strikers in Europe when Chelsea beat off competition from top clubs to secure his signing as he scored 95 goals in 159 games in four seasons at RB Leipzig,

However, the Germany international has failed to continue such form at London, a move that has raised eyebrows from football fans and pundits.

Michael Ballack who had a glittering career at Chelsea has now insisted that his fellow countryman has struggled to adapt to the blues style of play since his move to Stamford Bridge.

Speaking with Ominisport, Ballack stated that Werner started pretty well but if you aren’t scoring as a striker, then it is hard on the self-confidence.

Ballack stated that he believes that it is very hard for Werner overall, as he was used to playing differently at Leipzig because he had a lot more space in front of him.

However, Chelsea is the kind of team that has a lot of ball possession, wanting to dominate the opponent, maybe even more so with Thomas Tuchel as the manager.

He noted that maybe Werner has to work on his playing style a little bit or try to get himself into better positions.

Ballack who was one of the hottest midfielders of his era stated as a striker you are depending on your fellow players to find you and if the goal drought breaks, then Werner will be able to find his old form.

According to Ballack, Werner used to have good phases with the national team, using his physical presence and power to break down on the wing, so when the drought breaks, then things will go better again.
