Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a season-long loan for Benfica forward Carlos Vinicius.

The deal was reported by the Portuguese club late on Thursday night, with the Brazil international to move to London for the 2020/21 season pending the agreement of personal terms and medical test.

Tottenham Hotspur will have to pay £2.69m loan fee and have the alternative of buying the 25-year-old for £40.38m toward the end of the season.

The said understanding, communicated at 11:56 pm on Thursday, incorporates a buy choice clause in the amount of €45m, to which, whenever worked out, the sum paid for the loan will be deducted.

The day al is subject to the signing of the striker’s sports work contract with Tottenham Hotspur.

Carlos Vinicius’ pending move implies Tottenham Hotspur at last have another striker on their books to ease the workload on Harry Kane, something they have been without since Fernando Llorente left the club the previous summer.

Jose Mourinho has been eager to sign a striker this current summer transfer window, having been not able to do as such in January, and will be happy he has secured his main target.

It is perceived Tottenham Hotspur have been keen on Carlos Vinicius for a great part of the summer transfer window but have just had the option to strike a deal after conditions at Benfica changed.

The Brazilian scored 18 goals in 32 games for Benfica last season and with solid genuineness seems fit to Jose Mourinho’s style of play.

Jose Mourinho was asked about the deal after his side beat Maccabi Haifa 7-2 to book their place in the Europa League group stages, but he decided to stay tight lipped.
