Xabi Alonso Breaks Silence on Enzo Fernandez Future Amid Real Madrid Interest

Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has made his position clear on Enzo Fernandez’s future, insisting he wants the Argentina international to remain at Stamford Bridge despite ongoing links with Real Madrid.
Speculation surrounding Fernandez has intensified in recent weeks after reports claimed members of the midfielder’s camp had explored the possibility of a summer move. Real Madrid were widely identified as a potential destination, fuelling uncertainty over the 2022 World Cup winner’s long-term future.
However, speaking during his first major press conference since taking charge of Chelsea, Alonso dismissed suggestions that he is prepared to sanction the midfielder’s departure. The Spaniard stressed that Fernandez remains a central part of his plans as he begins rebuilding the squad for the 2026/27 campaign.
Chelsea have already undergone significant changes this summer, with several new signings arriving and others leaving the club. Despite those changes, Alonso is determined to keep hold of one of the team’s most influential players as the Blues look to recover from a disappointing league campaign.
Fernandez has established himself as one of Chelsea’s standout performers since arriving from Benfica and is viewed as a key figure around whom Alonso wants to build his midfield.
Although transfer speculation is expected to continue throughout the window, Chelsea’s public stance remains unchanged. Club officials are understood to have no desire to sell the midfielder unless an extraordinary offer is received.
With Alonso making his intentions clear, Fernandez is expected to remain at the heart of Chelsea’s project as the club targets a return to the Premier League’s top four and aims to challenge for major honours once again.
