Chelsea have continued their pursuit of Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan but their legend Gianfranco Zola does not feel the move is right.

Lukaku have become Chelsea’s top target ever since they failed to agree a deal with Borussia Dortmund for the signal of Erling Haaland.

Chelsea are also interested in signing Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur but the blues believe the valuation of the England international is too much and would prefer Lukaku.

With Lukaku move reportedly set to be completed before the transfer window closes, former blues player Gianfranco Zola has questioned the need for the Blues to splash £95million on the Belgium international.

Zola asked why Chelsea are eager to sign Lukaku as he noted that Timo Werner offers them a better attacking option.

Speaking with Tuttomercatoweb, Zola stated that Chelsea had an extraordinary season last year, but the focus was always on the fact that they lacked a goalscorer.

He noted that Chelsea often creat chances, and in some games, they were quite penalised, Lukaku comes in to fill that gap, but Zola insists he liked Chelsea the way they were.

According to the former blues player, Werner did a dirty job for everyone else, and the reason they won the Champions League is because he put others in a position to do well.

Zola added that he’s curious to see Lukaku, but he liked Chelsea the way they were.

Chelsea are reportedly going to pay Inter Milan a fee in the region of £95m and it will be short of the British transfer record set by Manchester City when they signed Jack Grealish.
