Arteta makes revelation about Aubameyang, others at Arsenal
Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has opened up about some players who damaged the club.
Arteta while discussing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s exit earlier this year on Sky Sports said some of these players held Arsenal back.
Recall that Arteta had stripped Aubameyang of the captain band and relegated him to the youth team after accusing him of disciplinary issues.
Aubameyang, who is currently signed to Chelsea later lost his contract at the Emirate stadium as Arteta admitted he recommended that the contract be terminated.
After he departed from Arsenal, Aubameyang joined the Spanish club Barcelona in February.
However, Arteta in a statement revealed Aubameyang was not the only player dragging the club backwards.
In an interview with Sky Sports, the Gunners coach was asked about the decision to get rid of Aubameyang.
“First of all, I didn’t take that decision, we took that decision as a club,” he said.
“Obviously there is my recommendation and what I feel that we need to do to get where we want.
“But I wouldn’t like to single out one player. I think it was with several players.
“There are people holding that boat [back] and putting weight on it.
“I’m sorry, but we want to go even faster and there’s no time, whether it’s a player or a staff member, for someone damaging the club and we made that decision.”
