Arsenal Could Wait to Sign Real Madrid Star in Odegaard-Style Deal

Arsenal have been tipped to adopt a patient strategy in their pursuit of Real Madrid star Rodrygo, potentially mirroring the successful approach they used to sign Martin Ødegaard.
With uncertainty surrounding Rodrygo’s future at the Bernabéu, Arsenal may look to capitalise later in the transfer window.
Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta have been actively seeking a new left winger, but one major target—Nico Williams—now appears close to joining Barcelona. Despite this setback, respected Arsenal reporter Charles Watts has offered supporters renewed hope, suggesting Rodrygo remains a realistic option.
Writing in his CaughtOffside column, Watts noted: “With Nico Williams seemingly heading to Barcelona, one of Arsenal’s top winger targets is now off the table. However, Rodrygo’s situation at Real Madrid is certainly one to watch.”
Watts added that while Arsenal are still keen to strengthen their attack, the presence of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard means there is no urgent pressure to rush into a deal.
Instead, the club can afford to monitor developments and potentially move for Rodrygo later in the window—just as they did with Ødegaard after an initial loan spell.
Rodrygo, valued at around £77 million, is considered a ‘dream’ signing for Arsenal fans. With Real Madrid’s attacking line increasingly competitive following Kylian Mbappé’s arrival, a move could become feasible if the Brazilian seeks more regular playing time.
