Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with moves to the American Major League Soccer.

Ronaldo could reunite with his perceived arch-rival Lionel Messi in the MLS, if Peterborough owner Darragh MacAnthony follows through with plans to buy an American club.

The former Man Utd star who is currently signed to Saudi side Al-Nassr has a contract that will run out in the summer of 2025.

And there are doubts on if the 39-year-old plans to retire or if he would consider moving to another club.

MacAnthony recently caused a buzz in the football world after he announced his plans to buy a club in the the United Soccer League, which is below the MLS, with players like Inter Miami’s star Messi making the league more attractive to investors.

In a statement via talkSPORT, MacAnthony disclosed that he believes valuations are taking off in the next ten years with the Apple deal with the Messi effect.

He thinks this could lure Ronaldo to move to the MLS when he’s finished in Saudi Arabia.

MacAnthony opined that football in the US will be big a matter of years and he believes if he can buy a USL club for £8-10million, even though it’s not in MLS, it could be worth double or triple in the next five years.
