Man Utd new defender speaks on why he snubbed Arsenal
Man Utd’s newest defender Lisandro Martinez in a recent statement has revealed why he opted to join the Red Devils despite interest from Arsenal
According to the defender, he chose to join ‘one of the best clubs in the world’ as against moving to North London.
Recall that the Red Devils signed the 24-year-old defender in a €67.3 million (£56.2m) deal from Ajax as he reunited with Erik ten Hag, who he played under for three seasons at the Dutch club.
While Mikel Arteta’s led Arsenal side had pushed hard to sign him, the Argentina international made it clear that Man United was always his first-choice destination.
Asked why he decided to join United, Martinez told MUTV, “Well, Manchester United I think is one of the best clubs in the world.
“Every player wants to play here. The opportunity was there, so I took it and now I’m really happy to be here.”
