Former Man Utd star announces retirement from international football
Former Manchester United Star and Uruguay striker, Edinson Cavani, on Thursday announced his retirement from international football.
Cavani, 37-year-old, is ending his international career as his country’s second all-time leading scorer and third most-capped player.
He scored 58 goals in 136 appearances for Uruguay.
Cavani, who is currently signed to Boca Juniors in a social media post said it had always been a blessing for him to have pulled on the Uruguayan shirt to represent what he love most in the world, his country.
Amid his retirement from the national team, Cavani promised to keep supporting Uruguay.
Recall that the striker made his debut for Uruguay in 2008 and played at four World Cups.
Cavani once played in the English Premier League with Manchester United.
In 2020, the Uruguayan signed with the Red Devils, scoring 17 goals in his first season, including a goal in the UEFA Europa League final, before signing for Valencia in 2022.
Cavani is considered to be one of the greatest strikers of his generation, known to be a quick, strong, opportunistic and prolific forward with good technique, and a tall, slender frame.
