Wright names Chelsea’s best player at the World Cup
Former EPL football star Ian Wright has named Morocco star Hakim Ziyech as Chelsea’s best-performing player at the ongoing World Cup in Qatar.
Ziyech has helped his home country become the first African nation to make it to the semi-finals of the tournament.
The winger flourished on the international scene despite his struggles for game time at Chelsea after Morocco changed their manager just before the tournament.
Ziyech will now be focusing on helping Morocco beat France in the semi-finals on Wednesday night to qualify for the final, where they could face Argentina.
Wright revealed he ‘loved’ watching Ziyech flourish, noting that the winger plays with a ‘different energy’ for his country than he does for Chelsea.
“I’m loving Hakim Ziyech at this World Cup, I’m loving him,” he said on the Wrighty’s House podcast.
“I love the way he’s playing.
“He plays with a different energy when he plays for his country. I watch him at Chelsea and I’m not being negative, but the difference is this man needs it when he’s playing for Morocco.”
