Chelsea interim manager Frank Lampard in a post-match statement has opened up on why Brighton defeated them in a 2-1 win on Saturday.

According to Lampard, Brighton played as the better side during the match.

Lampard in his statement also admitted that he was disappointed with the outcome of the match, adding that his side was not good enough against Brighton.

Brighton won all three points thanks to goals from Danny Welbeck and Julio Enciso while Conor Gallagher scored a goal for the Blues.

Speaking to BBC after the game, Lampard said: “I’m disappointed on every level. The better team won. They could have won by more. They played like a team.

“They’ve been together a long time. Not good enough. All the basic parts of football – to fight, to run – we were short on. Not a question of commitment as such. We have a game on Tuesday [against Real Madrid]. There is no point being too down, but we have to understand why today went the way it did.”
