UCL: Mendy was too casual vs Real Madrid

Chelsea goalkeeper and Senegal international Edouard Mendy has been at the receiving end of massive criticism after their latest defeat.

This comes as former Aston Villa striker, Gabby Agbonlahor, hit out at Chelsea goalkeeper Mendy following the Blues’ Champions League quarter-final first leg 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge.

According to Agbonlahor, Mendy was casual during the encounter against Real Madrid as Karim Benzema’s hat-trick gave the LaLiga giants the victory over Chelsea.

One of the match highlights showed Mendy caused Benzema’s third goal after the Senegal international failed to complete a pass to Antonio Rudiger while 35 yards off goal in the second half.

Benzema seized the opportunity and played the ball into an empty net to seal a hat-trick against the EPL side.

Agbonlahor believes Mendy’s error will teach him a lesson ahead of their next match.

“Some of these keepers deserve it, they are trying to be so casual and Rudiger’s tackle as well from the bad pass.

“But keepers are trying to be so casual nowadays, he [Mendy] deserves it because it will teach him a lesson,” Agbonlahor told TalkSport when asked about the incident.
