Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has opened up on the new position given to youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi ever since he joined the team.

Callum Hudson-Odoi who was linked with a move to European giant Bayern Munich in the summer window have been deployed to wingback ever since the former Borussia Dortmund manager took over from Frank Lampard.

The England international has impressed in his first two matches as a wing back and as Chelsea prepare to face a tough task in Tottenham Hotspur, Tuchel has shed more light on his role.

Speaking to the press ahead of the London derby, Tuchel stated that he didn’t know Hudson-Odoi hadn’t played wing-back before.

He noted that maybe it was a good thing Hudson-Odoi wasn’t ask because maybe he would have doubted his decision as the head coach of the team.

Tuchel pinpointed that the team had one training session before the Wolves game and were flying in on the same day and wondering what structure to implement to give the team a good feeling, and to have a solid block defensively but also to attack freely.

The former Dortmund manager insisted that to play with four you have to be very disciplined, and the automatisms between the line of four have to be very synchronised.

So the team opted for a back five and they didn’t want to get too defensive before he thought about trying Reece and Callum on the right side in training.

Callum fitted very good and he wanted to have at least four offensive guys on the pitch from the start, and have been showing his potentials.
