Thiago Silva names this player as the ‘future of Chelsea’ defence
Chelsea centre back defender and Brazil defender Thiago Silva has identified one player as the future of the club.
Silva, in his statement, named Trevor Chalobah as the future of Chelsea as the Brazilian believes he will be a mainstay at Stamford Bridge in the future.
Chalobah has established himself as a first-team regular player under coach Thomas Tuchel.
He has, so far this season, made 12 appearances in all competitions for the west London club.
Chalobah won Tuchel’s heart after he impressed the coach during Chelsea’s pre-season campaign.
The 22-year-old defender was handed his first-team debut against Spanish club Villarreal in the Super Cup in August 2021.
“Chalobah is a player despite being so young who plays like an experienced professional,” Silva told Chelsea TV.
“And that makes me really happy because I am there alongside him playing the same position and I can see how he is performing, how he is developing.
“Not just anybody can do this, can step up to a team like Chelsea and perform and he is not doing it because of my help, he is doing it because of his own abilities.
“He is a player who I knew from France where he was playing at a lower level for Lorient and he has made the step up and he is playing here because he deserves to.
“Some people said that he didn’t have the ability to do so, but he has made it because of his own capacities. That is something that makes me really happy because a player like Trevoh Chalobah is the future of this club.”
