Chelsea defender and Germany international Antonio Rudiger is on the verge of leaving Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window.

This comes as Rudiger’s contract with the Blues is set to lapse at the end of this season.

While the German wants to remain at Stamford Bridge, he is yet to come to terms with the Blues on the agreement of a new deal.

This is because Rudiger is demanding a higher wage than his current earnings at Chelsea before he signs a new deal.

However, should he decide to leave Chelsea for free next season, the reports have revealed that Rudiger’s wage could quadruple.

Spanish club Real Madrid are believed to be at the forefront to sign the German defender, while Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Juventus are also understood to be monitoring his situation at Chelsea.

However, from January 1st, interested clubs will be allowed to open talks over a free transfer for Rudiger, and the Daily Mail reports that they could make him one of the world’s best-paid defenders.

Matthijs de Ligt currently holds the title of the best-paid defender with a £400,000-a-week contract including add-ons at Juventus, and the report claimed that Rudiger could demand close to that sum due to the lack of a transfer fee – something which would usually be in the region of £70m.

At the moment, Rudiger earns £100,000 a week at Stamford Bridge, and this could increase greatly if he opts for a lucrative deal elsewhere.

Despite his unknown future, Rudiger remains a key player at Chelsea.
