German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig are leading the race to re-sign their former striker Timo Werner from Chelsea.

Werner has been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge this summer as he is keen on plying his trade elsewhere over lack of game time at Stamford Bridge.

The German striker is keen on representing his home country in the 2022 FIFA world cup and one of the ways to achieve this is by playing more.

Werner has been linked with a number of clubs including Juventus, Real Madrid, and Newcastle.

Popular transfer expert Fabrizio Romano in a statement said Leipzig, who Chelsea signed the German from, are ‘leading the way’ to land him.

Romano added there have been no talks at Newcastle’s end regarding Werner’s availability.

However, it seems the only way Chelsea will allow Werner to leave for Germany this summer is if RB Leipzig would consider a swap deal.

The report revealed Chelsea are keen to sign Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol in exchange for Werner but RB Leipzig want to keep the 20-year-old.
