Potter slammed over tactics vs Aston Villa
Former Aston Villa coach Tim Sherwood has lashed out at Chelsea manager Graham Potter’s tactics against the club on Saturday.
According to Sherwood, Potter’s team selection led to the Blues’ 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa.
The former manager stressed that Potter’s decision hindered Reece James in the disappointing match loss.
Aston Villa won all three points thanks to goals from Ollie Watkins and John McGinn.
The match saw Potter make use of a three-man defence of Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella and Reece James.
He deployed James on the right side, while midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek played further forward.
Sherwood believed Potter’s tactics did not allow James to play his normal attacking football from the right wing.
“It doesn’t help,” Sherwood condemned the team selection on Premier League Productions.
“I cannot understand why Reece James is not playing as a right wing.
“You’ve got [Benoit] Badiashile on the bench, why’s he not playing,” the former manager queries.
