Chelsea goalie and Senegal international Edouard Mendy has stated that his relationship with his fellow goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is good despite the fact that he unseated the latter as the Blues first goalkeeper.

Mendy moved to Chelsea from Rennes in 2020 and went on to become the club’s first-choice, making 31 appearances for the Blues in his first Premier League season.

The 29-year-old went on to beat Arrizabalaga as the West London No.1 keeper in his second season and is putting in several match-winning performances.

Chelsea are seated at the top of the Premier League table in eleven matches and have only conceded four this season.

However, Mendy stressed that there is no face-off between the goalkeepers at Chelsea.

My relationship with Kepa is very good, as is my relationship with Marcus [Bettinelli], the third goalkeeper at Chelsea. We compete with interest,” Mendy told Egyptian outlet El Match TV.

“The most important thing is that the competition between the players is for the benefit of the team. The titles are for the club and not for the player.

“My relationship with my teammates is very good. I respect everyone and there is always a state of friendship between us.”

Mendy is likely to start for Chelsea when they face Leicester City this weekend.”
