Liverpool end interest in RB Leipzig defender
Liverpool have purportedly told RB Leipzig that they won’t be seeking after a deal for centre back Ibrahima Konate this summer.
With Jurgen Klopp looking to support his defence amid a spate of injuries, the 21-year-old was perceived to have been on Liverpool’s radar ahead of summer transfer window.
Julian Nagelsmann will be waving farewell to Dayot Upamecano after Bayern Munich agreed a deal for the France international defender, and both Liverpool and Manchester United have been credited with an interest in his compatriot Ibrahima Konate.
In any case, Bild reports that RB Leipzig reached Liverpool to gauge their interest in signing Konate, but the current Premier League champion told the Bundesliga side that they are not interested in signing the 21-year-old.
Ibrahima Konate himself addresses to the reports while on international duty with the France Under-21 side, asserting that he was “tired” of the exceptional hypothesis encompassing his future.
The ex-Sochaux defender has made just 10 appearances during a difficult season with injuries, and his present contract with RB Leipzig is expected to terminate in the summer of 2023.
