Former Chelsea manager and football legend Frank Lampard has recounted how he was desperate for the Blues to make a huge signing during his first spell in charge of the club.

Lampard in a statement on the ‘Obi One Podcast’ claimed that he pushed for Chelsea to sign Jude Bellingham from German side Borussia Dortmund, however, the idea was not picked up on by the club’s hierarchy at the time.

Bellingham who joined Real Madrid this summer in a deal worth £100 million has been impressive for the Los Blancos, performing beyond expectation.

His performance has seen the midfielder being considered one of the most sought-after in Europe.

The Blues could have been the beneficiary of Bellingham’s top form if they had listened to Lampard a few years ago.

Lampard claimed that he pushed hard for the club to bring him in for a fifth of the price he ended up costing.

He said: “When I was managing at Chelsea (first time) I was desperate to bring Jude Bellingham in. But I couldn’t get it through upstairs – the idea of paying £20m for someone his age (at the time).”
