Former Blues defender identifies the players behind Frank Lampard’s sack at Chelsea
Former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot has identified expensive summer signing Kai Havertz and Timo Werner as the main reason why Frank Lampard was shown the exit door.
Lampard who is a club legend at Chelsea spent just 18 months in his spell as a manager as he was dismissed after a poor run of form.
The English trainer couldn’t bring out the best from his well-assembled squad with rumour of ranting between some top players in the squad also being reported in the media.
With Chelsea now eyeing former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel as his replacement, Melchiot noted that the expensive flops brought in by Frank Lampard are the reason behind his dismissal.
Speaking with talkSPORT, the former Chelsea defender stated that it’s going to be tricky, but when a new coach comes in everybody gets a new wind.
He noted that when things start working for the new manager, eyebrows will be raised again as all players will start from zero again, even the players who weren’t playing and didn’t get a look-in, they are going to get the opportunity now to perform and put
themselves in the window.
With Thomas Tuchel already tipped as the man for the job, Melchiot insisted that his connection with German players, especially the expensive guys they stood behind like Werner and Kai Havertz will help in the long run.
He added that Tuchel’s first job will be bringing the best out of this players as they know him well in the Bundesliga and he’ll know them really well too.
Thomas Tuchel is likely to be unveiled as Chelsea new manager before the end of Wednesday as he might be facing Burnley in his first match.
