Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has given an update on the Blues vice-captain Ben Chilwell and Enzo Fernandez ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Leicester City.

Pochettino disclosed that Chilwell be available but there will be no Fernandez in the Blues squad due to suspension.

Recall that Chilwell was missing in action during the Blues’ victory over Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge due to a knee injury he sustained during their draw against Brentford earlier this month.

The 27-year-old was assessed by a specialist and was able to undertake training on Thursday, the same day he was named in the England squad for their forthcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

That call-up provided a strong indication that Chilwell would be available for selection this weekend against his former club. And Pochettino has confirmed the left-back is expected to return to the squad.

‘Gareth told you he is fit [by selecting him for England],’ the Chelsea head coach said with a smile. ‘He is in training and I think everything is going well. He will be in the squad for Sunday, yes.

‘When a player comes back from injury, starts to feel fit, and then has a call-up for the national team, they are always so excited. So, he is excited like the rest of the players [selected for England].’
