EPL: Marcos Alonso could start during game vs Watford

Chelsea will face Watford on Wednesday night in the EPL at Vicarage Road.

The Blues coach Thomas Tuchel has confirmed Ben Chilwell as one of the players to be unavailable for the match owing to the injury.

Tuchel, in a pre-match statement, has tipped Marcos Alonso to start in place of Ben Chilwell.

The German coach stressed that he trusts Alonso to perform as he is an experienced player.

Tuchel, when asked about Chilwell’s replacement, said, “Yes, we have. First of all, we have Marcos who started the season for us when Chilly was in a bit of trouble and in a bit of a difficult moment. We trust him, we won Premier League games with him, Marcos is very experienced and I think it is even a situation where nobody is injured. You have two specialists for one position.”

“Both of them played for their national teams and sometimes you can end up with difficult decisions and it can be hard for one of them because in my opinion, they compete for one single position. Suddenly if one has a long injury like Ben now, it can seem like we don’t have enough.”
